Briarcliff/North Druid Hills Quad Study Technical Advisory Committee Neighborhood update meetings
Jan. 31, 2008 Message

A series of Quad Study update meetings have been announced by Commissioner Rader and the TAC. The meetings will be chaired by committee members. They are intended to give relatively small groups a chance to ask questions and interact in a way not possible at larger group meetings like those held last year at Kittredge Magnet School. The meetings will be held in proximity to several civic associations in the Quad Study Area.

Please note: At least three meetings are planned, all designed to cover the same information. It's recommended that residents attend the meeting nearest them so that all groups have an equal opportunity to ask questions and discuss findings in group settings that allow greater interaction. Additional information on the full meeting schedule will be forthcoming.

Meeting dates and locations are:

LaVista Park community:
Wednesday, February 6, 2008, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Westminster Presbyterian Church
1438 Sheridan Road.
Meeting chairs: Gene Schmidt, Larry Fonts

Merry Hills Community:
February 21, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Post Briarcliff Community Room
500 Briarvista Way
Meeting chairs: Debra Edelson, Larry Fonts

North Druid Hills Residents Community:
February 28, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Executive Park
#4 Executive Park Drive, suite 1408
Meetings chairs: Liz Beyer, Danny Wright

Topics to be discussed at the update meetings include:

* Final recommendations contained in the Garvin plan, A New Public Realm for DeKalb County.
* Questions surrounding land use and density - with and without transit.
* Principles to guide funding for the tax allocation district (TAD) that would be used to pay for improvements to the public realm.
* A review of the procedures and timeline to be followed for the possible adoption of amendments to the county's Comprehensive Land Use Plan and/or requests for rezoning.

It is imperative that folks attend these meetings and stay involved, even if the school properties are "off the table" for the time-being. Development pressure is reduced due to the economy but not going away and we need to stay involved as a community if we want to influence those who will make the final decisions on proposals.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Keeping with our promise to Dr. Lewis to assist in determining the best possible use for the school properties on North Druid Hills Road, a couple of StandUp members from North Amanda Circle have created an online survey. This survey, which does not ask for any personal information, asks which of the three possible uses suggested by Dr. Lewis after the school board vote is preferable and also gives a space for any other suggestions that you want to make.
This will be an ongoing survey, so we'll send updates to Dr. Lewis as well as posting them to our website, www.standupdekalb.org. Please visit the survey and give your opinion. Tell your friends and neighbors about it as well; if we don't want those properties sold off to some other developer, we the community must help in coming up with viable uses.
